عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إذْ طَلَعَ عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ شَدِيدُ بَيَاضِ الثِّيَابِ شَدِيدُ سَوَادِ الشَّعَرِ لَا يُرَى عَلَيْهِ أَثَرُ السَّفَرِ وَلَا يَعْرِفُهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ حَتَّى جَلَسَ إلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَسْنَدَ رُكْبَتَيْهِ إلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى فَخِذَيْهِ وَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ الْإِسْلَامِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْإِسْلَامُ أَنْ تَشْهَدَ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَتُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةَ وَتُؤْتِيَ الزَّكَاةَ وَتَصُومَ رَمَضَانَ وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ إنْ اسْتَطَعْت إلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا قَالَ: صَدَقْت. فَعَجِبْنَا لَهُ يَسْأَلُهُ وَيُصَدِّقُهُ. قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ الْإِيمَانِ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تُؤْمِنَ بِاَللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَتُؤْمِنَ بِالْقَدَرِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ. قَالَ: صَدَقْت. قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ الْإِحْسَانِ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّك تَرَاهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاك. قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ السَّاعَةِ؟ قَالَ: مَا الْمَسْئُولُ عَنْهَا بِأَعْلَمَ مِنْ السَّائِلِ. قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ أَمَارَاتِهَا؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تَلِدَ الْأَمَةُ رَبَّتَهَا وَأَنْ تَرَى الْحُفَاةَ الْعُرَاةَ الْعَالَةَ رِعَاءَ الشَّاءِ يَتَطَاوَلُونَ فِي الْبُنْيَانِ. ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ فَلَبِثْنَا مَلِيًّا ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا عُمَرُ أَتَدْرِي مَنْ السَّائِلُ؟ قُلْت: اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ. قَالَ: فَإِنَّهُ جِبْرِيلُ أَتَاكُمْ يُعَلِّمُكُمْ دِينَكُمْ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

Meaning of Hadith No. 2

Umar (RA) narrated: One day, while we were sitting with Allah’s Messenger (SAW), a man appeared before us with very white clothes and very black hair. There were no signs of travel on him, and none of us knew him. He sat down close to the Prophet (SAW), placing his knees against the Prophet’s knees and his palms on his own thighs. He said, “O Muhammad, tell me about Islam.” The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “Islam is to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish prayer, to pay zakat, to fast in Ramadan, and to perform pilgrimage to the House (Ka’bah) if you are able.” The man said, “You have spoken truthfully.” We were surprised that he asked a question and then confirmed the answer. He then said, “Tell me about Iman (faith).” The Prophet (SAW) said, “It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and to believe in divine decree (Qadar), both its good and its evil.” The man said, “You have spoken truthfully.” He then said, “Tell me about Ihsan (excellence).” The Prophet (SAW) said, “It is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then know that He sees you.” The man said, “Tell me about the Hour (Day of Judgment).” The Prophet (SAW) said, “The one questioned about it knows no more than the questioner.” The man said, “Then tell me about its signs.” The Prophet (SAW) said, “That a slave girl will give birth to her mistress, and that you will see barefoot, naked, destitute shepherds competing in erecting tall buildings.” Then the man left. We stayed for a while, then the Prophet (SAW) said, “O Umar, do you know who the questioner was?” I said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “That was Jibril (Gabriel); he came to teach you your religion.” (Reported by Muslim)

Reading of Hadith No. 3

عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: سَمِعْت رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: ” بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ: شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ، وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ، وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ “. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ وَمُسْلِمٌ.

Meaning of Hadith No. 3

Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) narrated: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say, “Islam has been built upon five things: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, establishing the prayer, paying the zakat, fasting in Ramadan, and performing pilgrimage to the House (Ka’bah).” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
