Correct Recitation of Surah al-Humazah

Correct recitation of the Qur’an involves pronouncing each letter and word accurately, following the rules of Tajwid. This ensures the meaning of the verses is preserved and the recitation is pleasing to Allah.

To recite Surah al-Humazah correctly, pay attention to:

1. Pronunciation of each Arabic letter.
2. Correct vowel sounds (Fathah, Kasrah, Dhammah).
3. Pausing at appropriate places.
4. Listening carefully to a correct recitation and imitating it.

Memorisation of Surah al-Humazah

Memorising the Qur’an is a blessed act. To memorise Surah al-Humazah effectively:

1. Break the Surah into small, manageable portions (e.g., one or two verses at a time).
2. Repeat each portion many times until it is firmly in your memory.
3. Recite the memorised portions regularly to reinforce them.
4. Listen to a Qari (reciter) to help with correct pronunciation and rhythm.

Surah al-Humazah (The Slanderer)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ
   (Wailul likulli humazatil lumazah)
   Woe to every slanderer and backbiter.
2. ٱلَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ
   (Allazee jama’a maalanw wa ‘addadah)
   Who collects wealth and counts it.
3. يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَهُۥ
   (Yahsabbu anna maalahu akhladah)
   He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.
4. كَلَّا ۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلْحُطَمَةِ
   (Kalla! Layumbazanna fil Hutamah)
   No! But he will surely be thrown into the Crusher.
5. وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحُطَمَةُ
   (Wa maa adraaka mal-Hutamah)
   And what will make you know what the Crusher is?
6. نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُوقَدَةُ
   (Naarul laahil-mooqadah)
   It is the fire of Allah, kindled.
7. ٱلَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةِ
   (Allatee tattali’u ‘alal af’idah)
   Which will rise over the hearts.
8. إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ
   (Innaha ‘alaihim mu’sadah)
   Indeed, it will be closed upon them.
9. فِى عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۭ
   (Fee ‘amadim mumaddadah)
   In extended columns.
