Lesson Content/Board Summary
HADITH
Definition and Importance of Hadith
Hadith refers to the sayings, actions, and approvals of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is the second primary source of Islamic law after the Qur’an, providing detailed explanations and practical guidance.
The following are reasons why Hadith is important:
- It explains and elaborates on the verses of the Qur’an.
- It provides guidance on how to perform religious duties like Salat (prayer) and Zakat (charity).
- It serves as a model for moral conduct and character.
- It offers solutions to various aspects of life not explicitly detailed in the Qur’an.
Hadith One of An-Nawawi’s Collection
Arabic Text: إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ وَإِنَّمَا لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى
Meaning: “Actions are but by intentions, and every person will have what he intended.”
Importance: This Hadith teaches that the sincerity of our intentions determines the reward for our actions. Good deeds done with bad intentions will not be rewarded by Allah. It emphasizes the inner purity required for any act of worship or good deed.
Hadith Two of An-Nawawi’s Collection
Meaning: “Islam is built upon five [pillars]: the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakat, fasting Ramadan, and pilgrimage to the House (Ka’bah) for whoever is able to find a way there.”
Importance: This Hadith outlines the fundamental pillars of Islam, which are essential practices for every Muslim. Understanding these pillars is crucial for practicing the religion correctly and establishing a strong foundation of faith.
Reading, Meaning, and Memorisation
Pupils should practice reading the Arabic text of the Hadith correctly, understand their meanings, and strive to memorize them. Regular recitation, revision, and understanding the context aid in effective memorisation and retention.
