First Aid

First aid is the help given to someone who is hurt before a doctor arrives.

What Are the Objectives of First Aid?

The main goals of first aid are:

To stop bleeding
To save lives
To prevent injuries from getting worse
To reduce pain
To prevent further harm or injury
To promote recovery
To provide comfort and reassurance

Main Objectives of First Aid

First aid is the immediate and simple help given to an injured or suddenly ill person before trained medical help is available. Its main objectives are to preserve life, prevent the condition from becoming worse, reduce pain where possible, and help the person begin to recover.

A first aider should remain calm, check that the place is safe, call an adult, and avoid actions beyond what he or she has been taught. A Primary One pupil should report an injury promptly and should never give medicine or touch blood without adult guidance and protection.

Class Practice

Use picture cards to sort safe responses from unsafe ones. Safe examples include calling the teacher, comforting the injured pupil and keeping other children away from danger.
