Lesson Content/Board Summary
AL-WUDU (ABLUTION)
Meaning of Al-Wudu (Ablution)
Al-Wudu, commonly known as ablution, is a ritual washing performed by Muslims to cleanse themselves before prayers (Salat) and other acts of worship. It involves washing specific parts of the body with clean water in a prescribed manner to attain spiritual purity.
Significance of Al-Wudu
Al-Wudu is important because:
- It is a condition for the validity of Salat (prayer).
- It promotes physical cleanliness and hygiene.
- It helps in achieving spiritual purity and focus during worship.
- It is an act of obedience to Allah.
Obligatory Steps of Al-Wudu (The 7 Fardh/Farz of Wudu)
These are the essential steps that must be performed for Al-Wudu to be valid:
- Intention (Niyyah): To make an intention in the heart to perform ablution for the sake of Allah.
- Washing the Face: To wash the entire face from the hairline to the chin and from ear to ear.
- Washing the Arms: To wash both arms, including the elbows, starting with the right arm, then the left.
- Wiping the Head: To wipe a portion of the head with wet hands.
- Washing the Feet: To wash both feet, including the ankles, starting with the right foot, then the left.
- Sequence (Tartib): To perform the steps in the correct order as prescribed.
- Continuity (Muwalat): To perform the washings continuously without long pauses between them, ensuring that one part does not dry before washing the next.
Things That Vitiate (Invalidate) Al-Wudu
Al-Wudu becomes invalid by the following actions:
- Passing wind (flatulence).
- Defecation (passing stool).
- Urination (passing urine).
- Deep sleep where one loses consciousness.
- Loss of consciousness (e.g., fainting).
- Emission of blood or pus from any part of the body if it flows beyond its point of exit.
- Vomiting a mouthful.
- Touching the private parts directly with the palm of the hand.
