Environmental Health in Practice

Environmental health examines how air, water, food, housing, waste, chemicals, noise, disease vectors and sanitation affect human health. Its purpose is to prevent harm by improving surroundings, not only to treat people after illness.

Useful actions include safe water, toilets and drainage, covered waste collection, ventilation, food hygiene, vector control and responsible chemical storage. Community action is necessary because one household’s dumping can affect many others.
