understanding color is basic to art, science, and everyday life. this lesson provides a basic understanding of color theory, which will be built upon in future science and art lessons.

The teacher will start by asking pupils what their favourite colors are and why.A brief discussion about colors seen in the classroom or outdoors will follow, leading into the lesson’s topic.


Lesson Content

What is Color?

Color is how we see light reflected off objects. Different objects reflect different wavelengths of light, and our eyes interpret these wavelengths as different colors. We see many shades, like red, blue, and yellow.

Primary Colors

Primary colors are the most basic colors that cannot be created by mixing other colors together.
These include:

  1. Red
  2. Blue
  3. Yellow
  4. White
  5. Black

Secondary Colors

Secondary colors are created by mixing two primary colors together.
They are:

  1. Green – Created by mixing yellow and blue.
  2. Orange – created by mixing red and yellow.
  3. Purple – Created by mixing red and blue.
  4. Brown – Created by mixing red, yellow, and blue.
  5. Gray – Created by mixing black and white.

Rainbows

rainbows are formed when sunlight passes through water droplets, creating lovely bands of colors. This happens as the water droplets act like tiny prisms, separating the white light into its different colors.
