What is a Liquid?

A liquid is a type of matter that flows easily and doesn’t have a definite shape. It takes the shape of its container, but it always has the same amount (volume).

Physical Properties of Liquids

Liquids exhibit several distinct physical properties that differentiate them from solids and gases. These include:

The following are physical properties of liquids:

  1. Liquids have a definite volume but no definite shape.
  2. They flow and take the shape of their container.
  3. liquids have surface tension, making them form droplets and bubbles.
  4. Different liquids have different viscosities (thickness); some flow faster than others (e.g., honey vs. water).
  5. Liquids can evaporate, changing into a gaseous state.
  6. Liquids can be compressed, but only slightly.

Movement of Liquids

Liquids move as their tiny particles (molecules) are not stuck together like in solids.They can slide past each other,allowing the liquid to flow and spread out.
