- Crop rotation: Changing crops in a field reduces disease buildup in the soil.
- Proper disposal of infected plants: Burn or bury infected plants to prevent the disease from spreading.
- Using pesticides correctly: Apply pesticides only when necessary to control pests and diseases.
- Practicing proper sanitation: cleaning farm tools and equipment prevents disease transmission.
- Ensuring adequate drainage: Proper drainage prevents waterlogged conditions that favor disease development.
Control of Plant Diseases
Plant disease may be caused by fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes or harmful environmental conditions. Control begins with clean seed or planting material, resistant varieties, correct spacing, crop rotation, removal of infected material and clean tools.
