A compost pit is a place where organic waste (like vegetable peels and leaves) is broken down naturally into nutrient-rich compost for gardening. It helps reduce waste and makes soil healthier. Nutrient-rich compost is great for plants!

Making a Compost Pit

here are the steps involved in making a compost pit:

1. Choose a location: Find a shady spot in your garden that gets some sun.
2. Dig a pit: Make a pit about 3 feet wide,3 feet long,and 2 feet deep.
3. Add layers: Start with twigs for drainage, then add layers of organic waste (leaves, grass, peels, food scraps).
4. Mix and moisten: Mix the layers and add water (like a wrung-out sponge).
5. Cover: Cover with soil or compost to keep pests out and moisture in.
6. Turn: Turn the compost every few weeks for air.
7. Harvest: After a few months, the compost is ready!
