Joints are places where two or more bones meet, allowing movement. Without joints, our bodies would be stiff and immobile.

Types of Joints in the Human Body:

Joints are essential for movement and stability in the human body.
The following are the types of joints in the human body:

  1. Ball-and-Socket Joint: Found in the shoulder and hip. These joints allow rotational and wide-range movements.
  2. Hinge Joint: Found in the elbow and knee. These allow movement in one direction like a door hinge.
  3. Pivot Joint: Found in the neck. This allows rotational movement.
  4. Gliding Joint: Found in the wrists. These allow bones to glide over each other.
  5. Condyloid Joint: Found in the wrist. Permits movement in two planes, allowing flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, and circumduction.
  6. Saddle Joint: located at the base of the thumb.Enables a wide range of motion, including opposition, which is crucial for gripping.
