Details Of Metamorphic Rocks
Metamorphic rocks are formed when other rocks are changed by heat and pressure deep in the Earth. They often have layers and crystals.
The following are characteristics of metamorphic rocks:
- Formed from heat and pressure
- May have shiny or glossy surfaces
- often hard and strong
- Contain crystals
- sometimes have bands or layers
- Can be formed from igneous or sedimentary rocks
- Examples include marble, slate, and gneiss
Sedimentary Rocks
Sedimentary rocks are formed from bits of sand, shells, and other materials that settle in layers and become hard over time.
The following are characteristics of sedimentary rocks:
- Made from particles or sediments
- Often have layers
- May contain fossils
- usually soft or crumbly
- Formed in water bodies
- Can be made from different types of sediments like sand, clay, and organic matter
- Examples include sandstone, limestone, and shale
