What is Energy?
Energy is the ability to do work or cause change. It can be stored or moved from one thing to another. There are many types of energy:
These include:
- Heat energy (makes things hot)
- Light energy (allows us to see)
- Sound energy (allows us to hear)
- Electrical energy (powers appliances)
- Mechanical energy (allows movement)
Heat energy is the energy of moving particles. It makes things hot. Light energy is the energy of electromagnetic waves. It allows us to see.
Some of the major sources of energy include:

The following are some major sources of energy:
- Sunlight: The sun gives us heat and light.We use it to grow plants and make solar power.
- Wind: Moving air. We use wind turbines to make electricity from wind.
- Batteries: Store chemical energy and release it as electrical energy. We use them in phones and laptops.
- Firewood: Burning it makes heat. We use it for cooking and heating.
- Water: Flowing water can make hydroelectric power. This is a clean energy source.
- Food: Gives our bodies energy.the energy in food comes from the sun.
- Muscles: We use energy from food to run and jump.
- Petroleum: A fossil fuel used to produce gasoline and other fuels.
- Natural Gas: Used for heating, cooking, and electricity generation.
- Coal: A fossil fuel burned to generate electricity.
We can use flowing water,like in rivers,to create hydroelectric power. This is a clean way to make electricity.
