Meaning of Suratul Qariah
The meaning of the verses highlights the intensity of the Day of Judgment:
- Verses 1-3: “The Striking Calamity! What is the Striking Calamity? And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?” These verses emphasize the terrifying and overwhelming nature of the Day of Judgment.
- Verses 4-5: “The Day when mankind will be like scattered moths, and the mountains will be like carded wool.” This describes the chaos and destruction of that Day. People will be confused and scattered like moths, and even strong mountains will be light and scattered.
- Verses 6-7: “Then as for he whose scales are heavy [with good deeds], he will be in a pleasant life.” This refers to those whose good deeds outweigh their bad deeds. They will be rewarded with paradise.
- Verses 8-11: “But as for he whose scales are light, his refuge will be an abyss. And what can make you know what that is? A fiercely burning Fire.” This refers to those whose bad deeds outweigh their good deeds. Their destination will be Hellfire.
