Lesson Content/Board Summary

Attributes of Allah

ALLAH

Allah is the One God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He is unique and has perfect attributes (Sifat) that describe His greatness, power, and mercy. Knowing these attributes helps us to understand who Allah is and how to worship Him.

The Holy Qur’an, including chapters like Surah Al-Ahqaf (46) to Surah Qaf (50), teaches us about Allah’s magnificent attributes. Pupils are encouraged to read and memorize simple verses from these and other chapters that describe Allah.

Some Attributes of Allah:
  • Al-Ahad (The One): Allah is one and has no partners. There is no god but Him.
  • Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful): Allah is kind and merciful to all His creation.
  • Ar-Rahim (The Especially Merciful): Allah is especially merciful to the believers.
  • Al-Khaliq (The Creator): Allah is the One who created everything in the heavens and the earth.
  • Al-Alim (The All-Knowing): Allah knows everything, seen and unseen.
  • As-Sami’ (The All-Hearing): Allah hears everything, no matter how small or secret.
  • Al-Basir (The All-Seeing): Allah sees everything, nothing is hidden from Him.
  • Al-Ghaffar (The Forgiver): Allah is the One who forgives sins.

The teacher recites a short, simple verse (e.g., from Surah Al-Ikhlas or Al-Fatiha) related to an attribute and encourages pupils to listen and repeat.

Lesson Keywords

  • Allah – The One God, Creator and Sustainer of the universe.
  • Attributes – The unique characteristics and qualities of Allah.
  • Al-Ahad – The One, referring to Allah’s absolute oneness.
  • Ar-Rahman – The Most Merciful, describing Allah’s general mercy.
  • Al-Khaliq – The Creator, describing Allah as the originator of all things.

Differentiation

For pupils who grasp concepts quickly, the teacher can encourage them to find more attributes of Allah in the Qur’an or to practice memorizing longer verses. For pupils who need more support, the teacher can provide simplified charts, focus on just two or three key attributes, and use more visual aids and repetition.

Note for teachers using this lesson plan

When discussing the specific chapters (46-50), focus on the general message about Allah’s attributes rather than detailed exegesis, keeping explanations simple and age-appropriate for Primary 3 pupils. Encourage recitation and memorization of short, simple verses that reinforce the attributes discussed. Ensure that the pupils grasp the concept of Allah’s uniqueness and perfection.
