Lesson Content/Board Summary

AS-SALAT (PRAYER)

Salatul Jumu’ah (Friday Prayer)

Salatul Jumu’ah is the special congregational prayer performed by Muslims every Friday, replacing the Dhuhr (noon) prayer. It is performed in a mosque and includes a sermon (Khutbah).

Importance of Salatul Jumu’ah:
  • It is a command from Allah (SWT).
  • It brings Muslims together as a community.
  • It allows Muslims to listen to the Khutbah (sermon) which contains guidance and reminders.
  • It is a source of great reward and blessings.
  • It is a day of gathering and remembrance of Allah.
Basic Steps of Salatul Jumu’ah:

Salatul Jumu’ah consists of two Raka’at (units of prayer) after the Khutbah. The Imam leads the prayer.

  • The Imam delivers the Khutbah (sermon).
  • The call to prayer (Iqamah) is made.
  • The Imam leads the congregation in two Raka’at of prayer.
  • Follow the Imam in bowing (Ruku’) and prostrating (Sujud).
  • End the prayer with Taslim (saying Assalamu Alaykum to the right and left).
Memory Verse:

Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an (Surah Al-Jumu’ah, Verse 9):

“O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu’ah, then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.”
