Lesson Content/Board Summary

SHAYTAN (SATAN)

Who is Shaytan?

Shaytan, also known as Iblis, is a jinn (spiritual being) created by Allah. He is arrogant and disobedient. He was created from smokeless fire, unlike humans who were created from clay.

Shaytan’s main characteristic is his arrogance and refusal to obey Allah’s command.

The Story of Shaytan’s Disobedience

When Allah created Prophet Adam (AS), He commanded all the angels and jinn to prostrate before Adam as a sign of respect, not worship. All the angels obeyed, but Shaytan refused out of arrogance. He said he was better than Adam because he was created from fire, while Adam was created from clay.

Because of his disobedience and arrogance, Allah expelled Shaytan from Paradise and cursed him. Shaytan then asked Allah for respite until the Day of Judgment to mislead mankind, and Allah granted him this.

Ways Shaytan Misleads People

Shaytan constantly tries to lead people astray from the path of Allah. Some of his ways include:

  • Whispering evil thoughts (Waswas) into people’s minds.
  • Making bad deeds seem attractive and good deeds seem difficult.
  • Encouraging people to delay or abandon their prayers and other acts of worship.
  • Creating doubts about Allah and Islam.
  • Inciting anger, hatred, and jealousy among people.
  • Making people forget Allah’s commands and prohibitions.

Should We Make Friends with Shaytan?

No, we should never make friends with Shaytan. Shaytan is our sworn enemy, and his only goal is to lead us to Hellfire. Befriending him means following his evil suggestions, which goes against the teachings of Islam and displeases Allah.

We should always seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan and strive to do good deeds.
