Pillars of Islam
What are the Pillars of Islam?
The Pillars of Islam are the five basic acts of worship that are compulsory for all Muslims. They are the foundation upon which a Muslim’s faith is built.
The Five Pillars of Islam
The five Pillars of Islam are:
- Shahadah (Declaration of Faith): This is the belief that “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger.” It is the first and most important pillar.
- Salat (Prayer): This involves performing five daily prayers facing the Kaaba in Makkah. Prayers are performed at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and night.
- Zakat (Charity): This is giving a portion of one’s wealth to the poor and needy. It is a way of purifying wealth and helping those less fortunate.
- Sawm (Fasting): This is abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to sunset during the month of Ramadan. It teaches patience and self-control.
- Hajj (Pilgrimage): This is the pilgrimage to the Holy City of Makkah, which every Muslim who is able must perform at least once in their lifetime.

The Pillars of Islam are important because they:
- Help Muslims show their obedience to Allah.
