SURATUL HUMAZAH

Introduction

Suratul Humazah is the 104th chapter of the Holy Qur’an. It has 9 verses and is a Meccan Surah, meaning it was revealed in Makkah. It warns against people who backbite, slander, and hoard wealth.

Meaning of Suratul Humazah

The word “Humazah” means “the slanderer” or “the backbiter.” The Surah speaks about the punishment for those who criticize others behind their backs, mock them, and are obsessed with gathering wealth without spending it in good ways.

Verses of Suratul Humazah (Chapter 104:1-9)

Simple English Translation:

  • Woe to every slanderer, defamer,
  • Who collects wealth and counts it.
  • He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.
  • No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.
  • And what can make you know what is the Crusher?
  • It is the fire of Allah, kindled,
  • Which mounts to the hearts.
  • Indeed, it will be closed over them
  • In extended columns.
