Recitation and Meaning of Suratul Humazah

Verses 1-3: Condemnation of Backbiters and Slanderers

Meaning: Woe to every backbiter, slanderer, who gathers wealth and counts it, thinking that his wealth will make him immortal.

  • Humazah: One who backbites, speaks ill of people behind their back.
  • Lumazah: One who slanders, finds fault with people to their face or makes gestures of contempt.
  • These verses condemn those who are obsessed with wealth and use their tongues to harm others.
Verses 4-6: The Punishment in Hutamah

Meaning: No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher. And what can make you know what the Crusher is? It is the fire of Allah, kindled.

  • Hutamah: The Crusher, a name for Hellfire, meaning it crushes and breaks everything thrown into it.
  • These verses describe the severe punishment for those who engage in such evil deeds.
Verses 7-9: The Nature of the Fire
