Lesson Content/Board Summary

SURATUL JINN (CHAPTER 72) VERSES 6-10

1. Arabic Text of Verses 6-10

2. Translation and Meaning of Verses 6-10

  • Verse 6: “And indeed, there were men among mankind who sought refuge in men among the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden [i.e., sin and fear].”

This verse explains that some humans used to seek protection from jinn, but this act only led to more sin and fear for them. It highlights the error of seeking help from other than Allah.

  • Verse 7: “And indeed, they thought as you thought that Allah would never send [anyone] as a messenger.”

This verse reveals that the jinn, like some humans, mistakenly believed that Allah would not send any messenger to guide creation. This shows their limited knowledge before the advent of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

  • Verse 8: “And indeed, we sought to touch the heaven, but found it filled with strong guards and burning flares.”

The jinn report that after the Prophet’s mission began, they tried to ascend to the heavens to eavesdrop, but found it heavily guarded by angels and protected by fiery projectiles (shooting stars).

  • Verse 9: “And indeed, we used to sit therein in [various] stations to listen, but whoever listens now will find a burning flare lying in wait for him.”

The jinn acknowledge that they previously had access to certain parts of the heavens to listen to divine decrees, but now anyone attempting to do so will be struck by a fiery projectile.

  • Verse 10: “And indeed, we do not know if evil is intended for those on earth or if their Lord intends for them guidance.”

The jinn confess their uncertainty regarding Allah’s purpose for humanity after these changes. They do not know if these new measures are a sign of impending evil or if Allah intends guidance for those on earth through the new revelation.

3. Key Messages from Verses 6-10

  • Seeking refuge in jinn or any created being is forbidden in Islam and only leads to harm and sin.
  • Allah is All-Powerful, and He protects His revelations and decrees.
  • The heavens are guarded against jinn’s interference, especially after the coming of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
  • The jinn have limited knowledge compared to Allah. They cannot fully comprehend Allah’s plans for humanity.
  • These verses confirm the prophethood of Muhammad (SAW) and the authenticity of the Quran, as the jinn themselves observed the heavenly changes that coincided with his mission.

4. Memorisation Tips

  • Read each verse multiple times.
  • Listen to recitations from a Qari (reciter).
  • Break the verses into smaller phrases.
  • Recite the verses during daily prayers.
