Purpose Of Gifts And Talents

Everyone has something they are good at. These are called talents or gifts. God gives each person a gift to be used to serve Him and help other people.

Memory Verse: As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another. — 1 Peter 4:10

Purpose of Gifts and Talents

God gives each person gifts for a reason. He wants us to use them well to bless others and serve Him faithfully. The Bible tells us that when we use our talents well, God is pleased with us.

The following are purposes of gifts and talents:

To serve God faithfully
To help other people
To build the church and the body of Christ
To spread the message of God
To bring joy and healing to others
To develop ourselves and become useful in society

Lessons from the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30)

Jesus told a story about a master who gave talents to his servants before going on a journey. Two of them used their talents wisely and made more, but one hid his talent and did nothing with it. The master was happy with the two who used their gifts and was angry with the one who did not.
