Our environment includes everything around us, like our homes, streets, and schools. It’s important to keep our environment safe from harm so that everyone can feel secure. Below are some ways to secure our environment:

1. Locking doors and windows: Always make sure doors and windows are securely locked when not in use to prevent unauthorized entry.
2. Using streetlights: Ensure that streetlights are on at night to brighten our surroundings and reduce dangers.
3. Not leaving valuables outside: Never leave valuable items like bikes or electronics outside where they can be stolen.
4. Reporting suspicious activities: If you see somthing unusual in your community, it’s important to tell an adult or a security officer promptly.
5. Avoiding unsafe areas: Stay away from places that are not well-lit or are known to be risky.

Layers of Environmental Security

A secure environment combines visibility, controlled access, working locks and lighting, clear emergency routes, responsible neighbours and prompt reporting. Schools should check gates, visitor procedures, fire exits, electrical hazards and safe collection of pupils.

Physical measures work best with good behaviour. Do not share access codes, leave keys carelessly, block exits or confront an intruder. Report broken facilities and suspicious activity to a trusted adult or lawful authority.
