Modern means of security alerts use ICT tools to detect, prevent, and respond to security issues. Below are seven gadgets used in gathering information to curb insecurity:

CCTV Cameras: Used for monitoring and recording activities.
Mobile phones: Help in sending and receiving security alerts quickly.
GPS Trackers: Used to locate stolen items or missing people.
Security Drones: Provide aerial surveillance of large areas.
Biometric Systems: identify people using fingerprints or facial recognition.
Alarm Systems: Detect unauthorized access and alert security personnel.
Walkie-Talkies: Facilitate swift communication among security teams.

Digital and Electronic Alerts

Modern alerts may use mobile calls, SMS, verified messaging groups, radio, television, sirens, public-address systems, CCTV control rooms and emergency apps. Sensors can also warn about smoke, fire, intrusion or flooding.

A useful report gives the exact location, what happened, when it was observed and whether anyone is in danger. Do not post victims’ images, reveal a safe hiding place or forward an unverified rumour. For immediate danger, use an official emergency channel such as 112.
