Lesson Content
The Use of Internet Media to Report Events of Security
We can use phones, computers, or tablets with internet to tell people about danger or bad things happening. This is called reporting using internet media. The following are internet media people use:
- YouTube
- Telegram
- Snapchat
Internet media helps us report dangerous events to the right people fast. We can report what we see online to help others stay safe by doing the following:
- Sending a message on whatsapp
- Posting about it on Facebook
- Making a video and sharing it
- Tweeting the event on Twitter
- Sending emails to news or police
- Sharing posts on Instagram
- Creating a group on Telegram to share information
- Posting updates on LinkedIn
Responsible Online Security Reporting
Internet media can send information quickly through official websites, verified agency accounts, email or emergency apps. A useful report contains location, time, what was observed and immediate danger, without exaggeration.
Do not livestream an active attack, expose victims, reveal responders’ positions or forward an unverified warning. For urgent danger, call 112 or another verified agency number; social-media posting alone may not reach a responder.
