The Sense of Hearing – Ear

The ear is the organ that allows us to hear. It’s like a receiver for sound waves, sending information to the brain.

What is the Ear?

The ear has three main parts:

Outer Ear: This is the visible part, shaped like a funnel to collect sound waves. It includes the earlobe, ear canal, and eardrum.
Middle Ear: A small,air-filled space behind the eardrum. It has three tiny bones (ossicles): the malleus, incus, and stapes. These bones vibrate to amplify sound.
Inner Ear: The innermost part, containing the cochlea. The cochlea converts vibrations into electrical signals sent to the brain via the auditory nerve.

How does the Ear Work?

Sound waves enter the outer ear, travel through the ear canal, and vibrate the eardrum. The ossicles in the middle ear vibrate,passing these vibrations to the cochlea. The cochlea changes these vibrations into electrical signals that the brain interprets as sound.
