Rationale for the Lesson

This lesson is important for students to deepen their understanding of the Qur’an by learning Surah Al-Mursalat. It helps them develop essential skills in Arabic recitation and translation, which are fundamental for performing prayers correctly and engaging in Da’wah. Understanding this Surah also provides spiritual insights and moral guidance for their lives.

Students should have basic knowledge of Arabic alphabets, simple Arabic word recognition, and the general importance of the Qur’an in Islam. They should also be familiar with basic rules of Tajwid.

Arabic Text and English Translation of Sūrat Al-Mursalāt

Bismillahi Ar-Rahmani Ar-Rahim

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

1. وَٱلْمُرْسَلَٰتِ عُرْفًا
   By the [winds] sent forth in gusts

2. فَٱلْعَٰصِفَٰتِ عَصْفًا
   And the storming winds, violently storming,

3. وَٱلنَّٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًا
   And the spreading [winds] that spread afar,

4. فَٱلْفَٰرِقَٰتِ فَرْقًا
   And the separators that separate [truth from falsehood],

5. فَٱلْمُلْقِيَٰتِ ذِكْرًا
   And the deliverers of the message

6. عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذُرًا
   To justify or to warn,

7. إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌ
   Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.

8. فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ
   So when the stars are obliterated

9. وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ
   And when the heaven is torn apart

10. وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ
    And when the mountains are blown away

11. وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ
    And when the messengers’ time has come.

12. لِأَىِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ
    For what Day was it postponed?

13. لِيَوْمِ ٱلْفَصْلِ
    For the Day of Decision.

14. وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ
    And what can make you know what is the Day of Decision?

15. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

16. أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
    Did We not destroy the former peoples?

17. ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
    Then We will follow them with the later ones.

18. كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
    Thus do We deal with the criminals.

19. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

20. أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍ مَّهِينٍ
    Did We not create you from a contemptible liquid?

21. فَجَعَلْنَٰهُ فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ
    And We placed it in a firm lodging

22. إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
    For a known duration.

23. فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَٰدِرُونَ
    And We determined [that arrangement] – and excellent are the determiners.

24. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

25. أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا
    Have We not made the earth a container

26. أَحْيَآءً وَأَمْوَٰتًا
    For the living and the dead?

27. وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ شَٰمِخَٰتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُم مَّآءً فُرَاتًا
    And We placed therein firmly set mountains, and We gave you sweet water to drink.

28. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

29. ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
    [They will be told], “Proceed to that which you used to deny.

30. ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِى ثَلَٰثِ شُعَبٍ
    Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns

31. لَّا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ
    Neither cooling nor availing against the flame.”

32. إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍ كَٱلْقَصْرِ
    Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as castles,

33. كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَٰلَتٌ صُفْرٌ
    As if they were yellow camels.

34. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

35. هَٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ
    This is a Day they will not speak,

36. وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ
    Nor will they be permitted to offer excuse.

37. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

38. هَٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ جَمَعْنَٰكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
    This is the Day of Decision; We have assembled you and the former peoples.

39. فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِ
    So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.

40. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

41. إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى ظِلَٰلٍ وَعُيُونٍ
    Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs

42. وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
    And fruits from whatever they desire.

43. كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
    [To them will be said], “Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do.”

44. إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
    Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

45. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

46. كُلُوا۟ وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ
    [O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.

47. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

48. وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ لَا يَرْكَعُونَ
    And when it is said to them, “Bow [in prayer],” they do not bow.

49. وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

50. فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَ
    Then by which statement after [this Qur’an] will they believe?

Step 1: Introduction
