Meaning of Population

Population means the number of people living in a place. It can be a small number or a large number. People live in places like towns, villages, and cities.

Why We Need to Provide Adequate Housing

When more people live in a place, they need more houses. Good houses help people to live well and stay healthy.

The following are reasons why we need to provide adequate housing:

To prevent people from sleeping outside
To give everyone a safe place to live
To stop sickness caused by dirty places
To make families happy and comfortable
To help children grow up well

Population and Housing Need

Population is the number of people living in a defined place at a stated time. A census counts people and collects information for planning schools, health facilities, water, transport and housing.

When population grows faster than safe housing, overcrowding and pressure on services may result. Good planning considers housing quality, location, affordability, drainage, transport and the needs of children, older people and persons with disabilities.
