Meaning and Types Of House

A house is a place where people live with their families. It protects us from rain, sun, cold, and danger.

Types of House

There are different types of houses. Some are strong and made with bricks. Some are simple and made with wood or mud.

The following are types of house:

  1. hut
  2. Flat
  3. Bungalow
  4. Duplex
  5. Storey building
  6. Caravan
  7. Tent
  8. Houseboat
  9. Igloo

Types of Houses

Houses may be classified by form, material or use. Examples include bungalows, storey buildings, detached houses, semi-detached houses, flats and traditional houses. Building materials may include blocks, bricks, timber, stone, earth, metal sheets or tiles.

The suitable type depends on climate, family needs, available materials, cost, safety rules and the land. Regardless of type, good housing should provide protection, privacy, ventilation, light, sanitation and safe access. Read the next lesson on features of good housing.
