Mechanised Agriculture: Benefits and Limits

Mechanised agriculture uses machines such as tractors, planters, pumps, harvesters and processing equipment to perform farm work. It can cover larger areas, reduce some heavy labour, improve timeliness and increase output when well managed.

Machines require capital, fuel or power, trained operators, spare parts and suitable land. Poor use may compact soil, cause injury or replace jobs without new training. Mechanisation should match farm size, crop and environment.
