Meaning And Types Of Drugs
Drugs are substances taken into the body to cure sickness or prevent it. Some drugs come from natural sources, while others are made in laboratories.
Types Of Drugs
Drugs can be categorized based on their origin. The following are the types of drugs:
Natural Drugs: Natural drugs come from plants, animals or minerals. They are made by nature.Examples are:
- Ginger
- Aloe vera
- Garlic
- Neem leaves
- Honey
- Turmeric
- Eucalyptus oil
Synthetic Drugs: Synthetic drugs are made by scientists in laboratories using chemicals.
Examples are:
- Paracetamol
- Amoxicillin
- Panadol
- flagyl
- Vitamin C tablets
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen
Meaning and Types of Drugs
A drug is a substance that changes how the body or mind works. Medicines are drugs used to prevent, diagnose or treat illness when taken correctly. Other substances may be illegal or harmful, and even a legal medicine becomes unsafe when shared or taken in the wrong dose.
Drugs may be grouped as stimulants, depressants, pain relievers, antibiotics and other classes according to effect or medical use. Pupils should never classify an unknown substance by tasting it.
