Lesson Content
What is a Computer?
A computer is an electronic device that can store, process, and retrieve information. It performs calculations, displays images, plays music, and much more. It’s a powerful tool used for many things, like playing games, learning, and interaction.
The Major Parts of a Computer
The computer consists of several parts that work together to perform tasks. These parts include:
The following are the major parts of a computer:
- Monitor: The monitor is like a TV screen showing what the computer is doing. It displays text, images, and videos.
- Keyboard: The keyboard is used to type letters, numbers, and symbols into the computer. it’s like a typewriter but with more keys and special function keys.
- Mouse: The mouse controls the cursor on the screen. Its buttons select things, open programs, and navigate menus. You use it to move the cursor, click icons, drag and drop files, and scroll through web pages.
- System Unit: The system unit, often referred to as the computer case or tower, houses the main components of the computer, including the motherboard, CPU, memory, and storage devices.
- Printer: A printer is an output device that produces a hard copy of documents or images stored on the computer.
- Speakers: Speakers are output devices that produce sound from the computer, allowing users to hear music, speech, and other audio content.

Lesson Keywords
- Computer – An electronic device that processes data.
- Monitor – The screen that displays information.
- keyboard – Used for typing letters and numbers.
- Mouse – Controls the cursor on the screen.
- System Unit – The main part of the computer that houses the components.
Lesson Evaluation
To evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:
- What are the different parts of a computer we learned about today?
- what is the monitor used for?
- What do we use the keyboard for?
- How do we use the mouse to control the computer?
- Can you name one more part of a computer that you know of?
Assignment/Homework
- Draw a picture of a computer and label its parts.
- Ask your parents or guardians what they use computers for at home or at work.
- Write down three things you would like to do with a computer.
Differentiation
- For slower learners: Provide one-on-one assistance and use simpler language.
- For advanced learners: Encourage them to research and present additional computer parts.
- For visual/auditory/kinesthetic learners: Use visual aids, verbal explanations, and hands-on activities to cater to different learning styles.
Note for Teachers
Ensure to use real-life examples and demonstrations to make the lesson engaging and relatable for the pupils. Encourage active participation and provide positive reinforcement to build their confidence.
