Materials are the substances used to make things. They are everywhere, from chairs to phones.
Types of Materials Used in Technology
Many different materials are used in technology, each with unique properties.
Wood
Wood is a natural, strong, durable, and easy-to-work-with material. It’s used in houses, furniture, and many other things.
Metal
Metals are strong, durable, and often malleable (easily shaped). They are used in tools, vehicles, and more. Examples are:
- iron
- steel
- Aluminum
- Copper
- zinc
- Brass
- Bronze
Plastic
Plastic is a synthetic, lightweight, durable, and versatile material. It’s used in toys, containers, and building materials.
Glass
Glass is brittle but transparent, used for windows and containers.
Concrete
Concrete is strong and durable, used in buildings and roads.
Fabric
Fabric is a flexible material made from fibers, used for clothes and textiles.
Paper
Paper is a thin material made from cellulose fibers, used for writing and printing.
Rubber
Rubber is flexible and elastic,used in tires and seals.
Leather
Leather is durable and flexible, made from animal hides, used in shoes and bags.
Clay
Clay is a natural material that can be molded and fired to make pottery and bricks.
