Lesson Content

Types of Electricity: Current and Friction

  1. Current Electricity: Current electricity is the type of electricity that flows through wires.It is used in our homes and schools to power machines and lights.

The following are examples of current electricity:

  1. Electricity from wall sockets
  2. Electricity from batteries
  3. Power from generators
  4. Power from solar panels
  5. Electricity used by fans and fridges
  6. Electricity used by televisions and computers
  7. Electricity powering electric stoves and kettles

2. Frictional electricity: Frictional electricity is made when two things are rubbed together. It is indeed also called static electricity.

The following are examples of frictional electricity:

  1. Rubbing a balloon on hair
  2. Rubbing a plastic comb on dry hair
  3. Rubbing shoes on a carpet and touching metal
  4. Removing nylon clothes quickly
  5. Lightning in the sky during storms
  6. Sliding down a plastic slide
  7. Rubbing a glass rod with silk
