  • NAPPS National Unified Scheme of Work
  • Online information from: Wikipedia – Circulatory system
  • Relevant textbooks

instructional Materials

To deliver this lesson, the teacher will use the following materials:

  • A labeled diagram of the circulatory system
  • Charts showing the flow of blood in the body
  • Flashcards with key terms
  • A model or a video exhibition of blood circulation

Rationale for the Lesson

Understanding blood circulation helps pupils know how the body functions to stay healthy. It also teaches them the importance of physical activities and a good diet to support circulation.

Prerequisite/Previous Knowledge

Pupils have learned about the structure and functions of blood vessels, enabling them to connect this knowledge to how blood is circulated in the body.

Lesson Content

Functions of Blood Circulation

Blood circulation is the continuous movement of blood through the heart and blood vessels. This process is essential for maintaining life.

Functions of blood circulation:

The following are functions of blood circulation:

  1. Transporting Oxygen: Blood delivers oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body.
  2. Distributing Nutrients: It carries nutrients from digested food to cells in the body.
  3. Removing Waste Products: Blood helps remove waste products like carbon dioxide and urea.
  4. Protecting the Body: It contains white blood cells that fight infections.
  5. Regulating Body Temperature: Blood circulation helps maintain a stable body temperature.
  6. Transporting Hormones: Blood carries hormones from endocrine glands to target organs.
  7. Clot Formation: blood contains platelets that help in forming clots to prevent excessive bleeding.

Functions of Blood Circulation

Blood circulation delivers oxygen, water, nutrients and hormones; carries carbon dioxide and other wastes away; helps control temperature; supports defence against infection; and forms clots to limit bleeding.

The heart pumps through pulmonary circulation between heart and lungs and systemic circulation between heart and the rest of the body.

Teaching Methods

To deliver this lesson,‌ ⁤the teacher will⁤ adopt⁤ the following methods: Discussion, Clarification, Visual Aids, Modeling, Interactive Sessions, Questioning.
