Lesson Content/Board Summary

Faraidus Salat (Compulsory Steps of Salat)

What is Faraidus Salat?

Faraidus Salat refers to the compulsory or obligatory steps and actions that must be performed during Salat (prayer) for it to be valid and accepted by Allah. If any of these steps are missed or performed incorrectly without a valid reason, the Salat becomes invalid.

Compulsory Steps of Salat (Faraidus Salat)

The following are the compulsory steps of Salat:

  • Niyyah (Intention): This is the intention in the heart to perform a specific Salat (e.g., Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) for the sake of Allah. It is not spoken aloud.
  • Takbiratul Ihram (Opening Takbir): Saying “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest) to begin the Salat, while raising hands to the ears. This marks the beginning of the prayer and forbids all worldly actions.
  • Qiyam (Standing): Standing upright during the prayer for those who are able to do so.
  • Qira’ah (Recitation): Reciting Surah Al-Fatiha in every Raka’ah (unit of prayer).
  • Ruku (Bowing): Bowing down with hands on the knees, keeping the back straight, and saying “Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem” (Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great) three times.
  • I’tidal (Standing up from Ruku): Standing straight again after Ruku, saying “Sami Allahu liman hamidah” (Allah hears those who praise Him) and then “Rabbana walakal hamd” (Our Lord, to You be all praise).
  • Sujud (Prostration): Prostrating twice in each Raka’ah, placing the forehead, nose, palms, knees, and toes on the ground, and saying “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High) three times.
  • Julus Bainas Sujudain (Sitting between two prostrations): Sitting briefly and calmly between the two prostrations.
  • Qa’dah Akhirah (Final Sitting): Sitting in the final Raka’ah to recite the Tashahhud, Salawat (blessings upon the Prophet), and make supplications.
  • Salam (Salutation): Turning the head to the right and then to the left, saying “Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah” (Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you), to conclude the Salat.
