  • It purifies a person’s wealth and soul.

Memory Verse

SUNNAN AND MUSTAHABBAT OF SALAT

Salat (prayer) has certain actions that are considered Sunnan (practices of the Prophet) and Mustahabbat (recommended acts) which enhance the prayer, though not obligatory.

Sunnan of Salat

Sunnan are the practices of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that he regularly performed during Salat. Omitting them does not invalidate the Salat, but performing them brings extra rewards.

Examples of Sunnan of Salat:

  • Raising hands to the shoulders or ears at the beginning of Salat (Takbiratul Ihram).
  • Reciting a short chapter (Surah) after Surah Al-Fatiha in the first two Raka’at.
  • Saying “Ameen” aloud after Surah Al-Fatiha (for congregational prayer).
  • Reciting additional supplications after Tashahhud and before Tasleem.
  • Placing the right hand over the left hand on the chest or naval during Qiyam (standing).
Mustahabbat of Salat

Mustahabbat are recommended acts that are good to do but are not as emphasized as Sunnan. Performing them brings rewards, but omitting them is not sinful.

Examples of Mustahabbat of Salat:

  • Looking at the place of prostration during Qiyam.
  • Making lengthy Ruku’ (bowing) and Sujood (prostration) by saying “Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem” and “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” more than three times.
  • Reciting a specific du’a (supplication) during Ruku’ or Sujood.
  • Performing the Salat with full concentration and humility (Khushu’).
  • Smiling upon completion of Salat.
