What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic machine that takes data as input,stores it,processes it,and gives information as output. It follows instructions to perform many tasks.
Tasks a Computer Can Perform
A computer is a versatile tool capable of performing a wide array of tasks.
The following are examples of tasks a computer can perform:
- Writing documents
- Creating presentations
- Playing games
- Browsing the internet
- Sending emails
- Storing and managing data
- Performing calculations
- Creating art and music
- Designing graphics
- Editing videos
Input, Processing, Storage and Output
A computer works through four connected actions. It receives input through devices such as a keyboard or mouse, processes the data according to instructions, may store it for later use, and presents output on a monitor, printer or speaker.
A computer is fast and accurate only when the instructions and data supplied are correct. It does not think or make moral decisions like a human being. Pupils should distinguish the complete computer system from the monitor alone.
