Rationale for the Lesson

prerequisite/Previous Knowledge

The teacher will begin by asking pupils what they remember from the previous lesson about the promise of a savior. A brief review will be conducted, followed by introducing the topic of prophecies and their importance in understanding Jesus’ birth.

Lesson Content

Understanding Prophecy

A prophecy is a message from God, given through a prophet, about something that will happen in the future. prophets were special messengers chosen by God to deliver His messages.

The Prophecy of Isaiah

Isaiah 7:14 – The Sign of immanuel

Isaiah 7:14 states that a virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (“God with us”).This was fulfilled when Mary, a virgin, gave birth to Jesus.

Isaiah 9:6-7 – The Names of Jesus

Isaiah 9:6-7 gives several names for Jesus: Splendid Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The following are names of Jesus as mentioned in Isaiah 9:6-7:

1. Wonderful Counselor: Jesus gives wise guidance.
2. Mighty God: Jesus has the power of God.
3. Everlasting Father: Jesus cares for us forever.
4. Prince of Peace: Jesus brings peace to our hearts.

Isaiah 11:1-5 – The Branch from Jesse

Isaiah 11:1-5 tells us that Jesus will come from the family line of Jesse (King david’s father). It describes Jesus having the spirit of the Lord and ruling with wisdom,understanding,and justice.

Memory Verse

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (isaiah 9:6)

Importance of These Prophecies

These prophecies show that God had a plan to save humanity long before Jesus was born. They help us understand that Jesus is the promised Savior and that God always keeps His promises. They also strengthen our faith and give us hope.
