Purification of Water
Clean water is essential for good health. Several methods purify water, making it safe to drink. These include:
- Boiling: Heating water for at least one minute kills harmful germs.
- Filtration: Using a filter removes particles and some microorganisms.
- Chlorination: Adding chlorine tablets kills bacteria and viruses.
- Distillation: Heating water to create steam, then condensing it back into liquid removes impurities.
- Using UV Light: Ultraviolet light destroys bacteria and viruses.
- Solar Disinfection (SODIS): exposing water in a clear container to sunlight for a certain period.
- Aeration: Exposing water to air to remove dissolved gases and improve taste.
