What is Floatation?
Floatation is when something stays on top of a liquid or gas without sinking. In air, this happens when something is light or shaped so the air supports it. Think of a feather falling slowly compared to a rock; the feather’s lightness and shape let air slow its fall.
Things That Float In Air
Some objects are able to remain suspended in the air due to their properties. These include:
- Balloons: Filled with helium or hot air,balloons float as they are lighter than the air around them. this is a classic example of floatation.
- bubbles: Soap bubbles are very light and the air inside helps them float until they pop.
- Feathers: Light and airy, feathers float easily.
- Kites: Kites catch the wind and float and glide.
- flying Seeds: Some seeds, like dandelion or maple seeds, are designed to float on the wind to spread.
- Paper Airplanes: These are made to catch air and glide.
- Parachutes: Parachutes are big and slow a person’s fall from a plane.
- Dust Particles: Tiny particles of dust can remain suspended in the air for extended periods.
- Smoke: Smoke particles rise and float due to their heat and lightness.
Importance of Floatation in air
