The Second Stanza of the Current Anthem

Nigeria, We Hail Thee is Nigeria’s current anthem under the National Anthem Act 2024. Its second stanza focuses on the national flag and the values citizens want the country to uphold. It is not the prayer stanza from the anthem used between 1978 and 2024, which belongs to the former anthem.

Main Ideas

The green-white-green flag is a shared national symbol.
Truth and justice should guide public and private conduct.
Honour includes doing what is right and protecting the country’s good name.
Citizens should hand a respected national heritage to the next generation.

The teacher should use the officially approved text for recitation and ask pupils to paraphrase each idea. Respect for an anthem must be supported by truthful, just and peaceful behaviour.
