Values That Promote Peace: Forgiveness

Forgiveness is letting go of anger and hurt when someone offends us. Tolerance means accepting others even when they are different. These values help us live in peace with family, friends, and classmates.

Meaning of Tolerance

Tolerance means accepting others even when they are different, allowing others to have different opinions, habits, or beliefs.

How Forgiveness and Tolerance Promote Peace

Forgiveness and tolerance help people live together happily.

They are:

They stop people from fighting
They help solve problems quickly
They help friends stay close
They make people feel loved
They help the school to be peaceful

Forgiveness as a Value for Peace

Forgiveness is choosing not to continue revenge or hatred after wrongdoing. It can reduce hostility and make dialogue possible, especially when combined with truth, apology, restitution and changed behaviour.

Forgiveness does not mean denying harm, cancelling lawful consequences or returning to danger. A victim may forgive while still seeking protection and justice.
