Meaning of Community

A community is a group of people who live, work, or interact in the same place.this means that it can be a small village, a town, or even a big city.

Examples are:

1. In a village, the farmers, shopkeepers, and elders form the community.
2. In a school, the teachers, pupils, and workers make up the school community.
3. In a church, the pastor, members, and workers make up the church community.
4. In a market, the traders, buyers, and workers make up the market community.

People and Places in a Community

A community is a group of people who live, learn or work in the same area and share places, services and responsibilities. A village, town, neighbourhood or school can be described as a community.

Members may include children, parents, teachers, farmers, traders, health workers and leaders. Common places include homes, schools, markets, farms, roads and health centres. People cooperate by keeping shared places clean, obeying useful rules and helping one another.

Local Example

Ask pupils to name three places near the school and the people who work there. Their answers should reflect their own community rather than a memorised list.
