Suratul Takathur (Q 102) – The Piling Up / Rivalry in Worldly Increase

Suratul Takathur is the 102nd chapter of the Qur’an, comprising 8 verses. It addresses humanity’s preoccupation with worldly possessions and rivalry in accumulating wealth and status, which distracts them from their ultimate purpose.

Recitation of Suratul Takathur

Translation:

  1. The mutual rivalry (for piling up worldly things) diverts you,
  2. Until you visit the graves (i.e., until you die).
  3. Nay! You shall come to know!
  4. Again, Nay! You shall come to know!
  5. Nay! If you had sure knowledge (of the consequences),
  6. You would certainly see the Hellfire!
  7. Again, you would see it with certainty of sight!
  8. Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight (you indulged in!).

  1. By Al-Asr (the time)!
  2. Verily! Man is in loss,
