- Their accustomed security [in] the journey of winter and summer –
- Let them worship the Lord of this House,
- Who has fed them from hunger and made them safe from fear.
Explanation and Lessons Learnt
Suratul Quraysh highlights several important lessons:
- Allah’s Blessings on Quraysh: Allah reminded the Quraysh tribe of the great blessings He bestowed upon them, particularly the security they enjoyed during their trade journeys in winter to Yemen and summer to Syria. This security allowed them to prosper economically.
- Gratitude to Allah: The Surah implicitly calls for gratitude to Allah for His immense favours. The Quraysh were protected from hunger and fear, which were significant concerns for other tribes.
- The Ka’bah as a Centre of Worship: The “Lord of this House” refers to Allah, the Lord of the Ka’bah (the Sacred House in Makkah). The Ka’bah was a central point for the Quraysh, and its sanctity contributed to their security and trade.
- Worship is Due to the Provider: Since Allah provided them with food (from hunger) and security (from fear), they were obligated to worship Him alone. This emphasizes that worship is a natural response to divine benevolence.
- Interconnectedness of Blessings: The Surah shows how security, sustenance, and worship are interconnected. When people are secure and well-fed, they are better able to fulfill their religious duties.
- Relevance to All Muslims: While addressed to the Quraysh, the lessons apply to all Muslims, reminding them to be grateful for Allah’s countless blessings and to worship Him alone as a sign of that gratitude.
