Lesson Content
What is Basketball?
Basketball is a team sport played with a ball on a rectangular court. The aim is to score points by throwing the ball through a hoop. Key skills include passing and bouncing.
Passing
Passing involves sharing the ball with teammates. Players use their hands to throw the ball. Types of passes are:
- Chest Pass: A simple pass from the chest.
- Bounce Pass: A pass bounced off the floor.
- Overhead Pass: A pass thrown over the head.
- Baseball Pass: A long pass thrown with one hand, similar to throwing a baseball.
- Behind-the-Back Pass: A flashy pass thrown behind the playerโs back.
Passing is essential for teamwork and scoring opportunities.
Bouncing
Bouncing, or dribbling, is controlling the ball by repeatedly bouncing it. It helps players move with the ball. Important points to note are:
- Use your fingertips for better control.
- Keep your eyes up to see your surroundings.
- Keep the ball low to prevent opponents from stealing it.
- Use your non-dribbling arm to protect the ball from defenders.
- Practice dribbling with both hands to improve versatility.
