Differentiation
For pupils who find reading challenging, the teacher will provide simpler, shorter passages and offer more one-on-one guidance. Advanced learners will be given longer or more complex passages and encouraged to summarize them in their own words, or to identify implied meanings.
Note for teachers using this lesson plan
Ensure that the Yoruba passages used are appropriate for the age and reading level of Primary 5 pupils. Encourage active participation and provide ample opportunities for pupils to read aloud and practice extracting information. Emphasize correct pronunciation and understanding of new vocabulary. Visual aids like flashcards for new words can be very helpful.
