Adequate diet is a meal that contains all the classes of food in the right quantity. It gives the body energy and helps it grow well.

Importance of Adequate Diet

Adequate diet helps us grow strong and stay healthy. It also helps our body fight sickness.

the following are the importance of adequate diet:

  1. Makes the body grow properly
  2. Gives energy to work and play
  3. Helps the body fight sickness
  4. Repairs worn-out body parts
  5. Keeps the skin and eyes healthy
  6. Supports brain development and cognitive function
  7. Maintains a healthy weight and prevents obesity

Adequate Diet and Individual Needs

An adequate diet provides enough energy, protein, vitamins, minerals, fibre and water for a person’s age, growth, activity and health. It should be varied, safe and taken in suitable amounts.

A diet may contain many foods yet remain inadequate if important nutrients are missing. Children, athletes and people who are ill may have different needs; a qualified health professional guides special medical diets.
