What is Energy?

Energy is the ability to do work. Work is done when a force moves an object. Such as, lifting a book is work.

Some of the major forms of energy include:

Different forms of energy play crucial roles in our daily lives,powering everything from our homes to our transportation systems.

Light Energy

Light energy is what we see as light. It comes from the sun, light bulbs, and other sources. Examples are:

  2. Lamplight
  3. Firefly light
  4. Laser pointers
  5. Television screens
Heat Energy

Heat energy is what we feel as heat. It comes from the sun, fire, and other sources. Examples are:

  1. Heat from a stove
  2. campfire
  3. Our bodies
  4. Electric heaters
  5. Geothermal vents
Sound Energy

Sound energy is what we hear as sound. It comes from vibrations. Examples are:

  1. A bird singing
  2. A car horn
  3. A musical instrument
  4. Human speech
  5. A ringing bell
Mechanical Energy

Mechanical energy is the energy of motion. It’s the energy an object has because of its movement or position. Examples are:

  1. A moving car
  2. A rolling ball
  3. A running person
  4. A spinning top
  5. A flowing river

chemical Energy

Chemical energy is stored in the bonds of molecules and is released when these bonds are broken. Examples are:
